A New Year, A New Attitude!
Ahh, we have come to a new year and everyone is making resolutions, and of course, most of the time they don't last too long, we just go back to what we are used to and stay in the rutt that we have been in for so long. That's because we have the wrong attitude.
If we look back at the story about David and Goliath we can see that if we keep a good attitude big things can happen. Everybody knows the story, but what if David had a different attitude. See, David was just a shepherd boy, the smallest one of all his brothers. While his brothers were off on the battlefield, David was back at home tending to all the sheep. Now, Goliath, had come out and challenged the Israelites for 40 days straight and no one would answer him, they were all afraid, they didn't have the right attitude. One day, David's father sent him to check on his brothers to make sure they were ok. So, David went to check on them and once he got there, he had seen what was taking place with Goliath.
Now everyone should remember that David had already slain a lion and a bear. How you say? Well, because of the attitude that he had. He had in his mind that God is with me and I am to protect my livestock. God gave him the courage and strength to overcome both of these trials, but now we are talking about another man, a soldier, trained to kill.
Anyone else that had even thought about going up against Goliath (this trial in life), had the wrong attitude. When we are up against something that big in life, we can't just back down or throw up our hands and give up, we have to give our problems to the Lord and he will make a way. HAVE FAITH!!!
Not David! David had come and seen what was taking place and told his brother that he wanted to go out against Goliath. His brother laughed at him and said you can't defeat him. David didn't back down though. So, his brother tried to get him to wear his armor, but it was to big and clanged around. David took it off and said, I don't need this. His armor, shield, and sword was God.
So David left and went down by the brook and took out 5 smooth stones for his sling shot and went to meet Goliath. Upon arrival, the giant laughed and then became angry because he felt like they were mocking him. Goliath asked, who is this that you have sent out to face me. David answered and said you come to me with a spear and sword, but I come to you in the name of the Lord and by his strength I am going to take your head. I know that sounds gross, but that is what happened. David took 1 stone and slung it at Goliath and hit him right between the eyes. After doing so he ran over to him and took out his own sword and chopped off his head.
Now the only way that this happened was because David had the right attitude from the get go. He knew that God was with him and that whatever it was that he would come up against, God would strengthen him and bring through the trial or battle. DAVID HAD THE RIGHT ATTITUDE.
So this year, instead of starting out with the right attitude and it deminishing after a little while, we need to pray and seek God and he will intervene and give us the strength that we need. We need to keep the right attitude all the time!!!
Thank you.
